The Invaluable and Immeasurable Work Contribution for Gerðarsafn

2021

Stainless steel, glue made from Irish Moss and water.

The work addresses ephemerality in man-made systems and environments. It’s a visual presentation of the invaluable and immeasurable work contribution of previous directors of Gerðarsafn, museum dedicated to Icelandic sculptor Gerður Helgadóttir (1928-1975).

It consists of portraits reliefs of the three previous museum directors. The height of each mould correlates with the years each director worked at the museum.

The moulds are filled with biodegradable glue made out of Irish Moss that slowly vaporises during the exhibition period. The glue is a replacement for the director as the adapter that holds the museum, with all its intricate tapestry, together.
